St. Patrick Church Study

Kennett Square

EAGER TO SERVE FUTURE GENERATIONS of parishioners as well as the Kennett Square community, St. Patrick Church opted to complete a church design improvements study that would investigate a new design initiative: a Link that would provide a covered connection from the church to the parish school. Archer & Buchanan Architecture was engaged to prepare a design that addresses the needs of the parish, sympathetically connects the church and school, and enhances an existing courtyard and the presence of the church property on an historic street in downtown Kennett Square. Specific requests included a larger and more inviting narthex, an accessible restroom at the floor level of the church, a sheltered entry that is welcoming in inclement weather, and a covered path connecting to the school building. Through a series of collaborative meetings conducted with the Pastor and church community representatives, design options were discussed and narrowed to a solution that satisfies all goals. Photorealistic renderings were developed to support the church in their efforts to raise funds for the realization of the project. The church design improvements study is the second project completed for the parish following a complete interior renovation of the church completed previously by Archer & Buchanan.
