Kennett Square Pool House

NESTLED IN THE ROLLING HILLS of Chester County, this pool house recalls the small, stone spring houses found on 18th century farmsteads in Pennsylvania. To anchor the stone building to the house and the landscape, the pool house and pool are sited above the head of a seasonal, dry stream bed behind the main house. The eroded stone walls of the spring house evoke the persistence of these eternal founts and serve to conceal the requisite pool equipment as well as an outdoor shower. The steady flow of water from spring house to stream is realized through the design of a spa that is both inside and outside of the spring house: the water percolates from the indoor spa, drifts through the stone arch, into the outdoor spa and then spills into the swimming pool below.
