Cor-Ten Cattails

Berwyn

THE DESIGN OF THE COR-TEN CATTAILS was inspired by the Arts & Crafts style house that it surrounds on a 12-acre estate in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. While performing as a fence to deter deer, it was originally conceived as yard sculpture. Made of 300 8’ above-grade Cor-Ten steel blades set 8 inches apart, the fence weaves throughout the front yard, opening and closing around trees in a deliberate serpentine layout. Combined with the angular profile of the stanchions, the winding plan can play interesting tricks on the eye; from some points the fence looks solid, from others blade thin, and sometimes projecting a wave effect of light passing through.
