THE CENTER FOR AUTISM (CFA) is one of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s leaders in serving and educating children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. To meet increased demand for services, CFA opted to more than double their 12,000 SF facility to 31,000 SF. The expansion initiative included a new 3,00 SF evaluation center, 6 new program rooms, special program space for younger children through their “First Friends” Program, sensory rooms, a large multi-purpose room, skills development space and additional office, meeting and staff facilities. Areas of the existing facility were expanded or improved, including the reception lobby, staff areas, new case management, out-patient therapy and clinical management offices. The design provides an environment of quiet color palette, controlled natural and artificial lighting, and durable non-patterned finishes. Room distractions such as light switches, cabinet hardware, and textural changes are carefully located and controlled to facilitate teaching, learning and childcare.
