“Anderson Place” c. 1714 & 1804

Phoenixville

THE OLDEST AND MOST historically significant house in Schuylkill Township, Anderson Place was home to Captain Isaac Anderson, who fought alongside General George Washington at Valley Forge. To prepare this elegant home to serve a modern family, Archer & Buchanan completed a restoration that included structural stabilization; re-pointing of the original red sandstone exterior; renovating the kitchen, sitting room, study, master suite and bathrooms; refinishing existing oak floors; inserting new dormers to bring light into the third floor; adding an adjacent three-car garage with a bedroom and bath on the second level; putting in a new pool and renovating the pool house; and restoring a centuries-old spring house buried in the side of the hill. Antique and salvaged materials were used throughout, and new windows, millwork, stone, roof, and wood flooring were matched with existing to celebrate the unique architectural aspects of the landmark house and property.
