Marshall Square Park Residential Development

West Chester, PA

This residential development brings new high-quality single-family housing to the heart of the Borough of West Chester.  The 1.25-acre site, which includes the majestic Washington Townsend House (the U.S. Senator responsible for the U.S. Park Service under Theodore Roosevelt), had been converted to a nursing home.  The site was overbuilt in the 1950's with nondescript institutional structures that were “out of sync” with the urban context.  In the 1990's the facility was deemed outdated and inadequate to serve its elderly residents.  The site was made available for development, and Archer & Buchanan was charged with designing a flexible and contextual home prototype that would fit into and enhance the well-established neighborhood of handsome single and twin residences.
