Japanese Inspired Tea House

Wyndmoor, PA

This small architectural garden folly houses an international collection of smooth Zen-like river stones.  The stones inspired the design of soothing water features with an interior trickle fountain and exterior koi pond moat, streams and cascading ponds.  The interplay of inside and out creates a contemplative setting with views in three directions to a peaceful landscape setting.  Soft light filters through traditional shoji screens and cut-paper lanterns of the ordered, hipped structure with reed ceiling.  Graced with Japanese-inspired details of tightly coursed wood shingles and a patterned copper ridge cap, the space is an intimately scaled respite.
