This new home replaces an earlier home inappropriate to its charming old Main Line neighborhood. The clients’ desire for their home was to blend more seamlessly with the surrounding homes built in the 1920s, predominantly in the English mode. The design minimizes the apparent size of the house by breaking down the program into a Main Block, the Family Room as a “link” and then ground floor Master Suite as a pavilion to the rear. Off the Master Bath is a walled court with spa. Throughout, special attention was given to the use of traditional materials and details of the area and working in the old ways to achieve a feeling of permanence, while the planning is thoroughly modern.
